The fire in the 200 block of Hartman Bridge Road was first reported to dispatchers at 11:50 a.m.
The fire started inside of the restaurant while only employees were inside, according to Pennsylvania state police. No injuries have been reported.
The business is right next door to the Sight and Sound Theatres, where Jonathan Bartel is a production programmer. He shared pictures of the fire writing "Hershey Farm is on fire! It is completely lost at this point. My heart goes out to the owners and staff."
Bartel sent Daily Voice exclusive video and photos of the fire. You can check out the video here:
Dozens of photos have been shared on social media as the thick smoke billows from the building.
Videos have also been shared. You can watch crews fight the blaze and gather water from a nearby pond in the video players below.
Due to fire crews "drawing water" from the Strasburg Borough water system, "customers may experience dirty water. If you do experience dirty water, let your cold water run until it is clear," area police stated in a release around 2 p.m.
The fire was ruled an accident and "caused a multi-million dollar loss to (the) structure and (its) contents," according to the release by Pennsylvania state police around 4 p.m.
The roadway remains closed in the area as crews remain on the scene as of 4:30 p.m.
